Can I pay with my insurance?Equilibrium Psychotherapy has a number of clients who pay for services through insurance coverage, however, we do not offer direct billing. Through the Jane App, an invoice will be generated with all of the information that you need (including practitioner license number) to submit a claim to your insurance company. It is your responsibility to pay the balance of your account at the end of each session regardless of the state of your claim. This is why we STRONGLY recommend checking in with your insurance provider beforehand to see if your plan covers Registered Psychotherapists (Qualifying) supervised by Registered Psychotherapists. You may want to ask them the following questions: What is the total amount of coverage I have left for the year? (This could be a total dollar value or a percentage per session etc.) Is a physician’s referral required for coverage? What credentials are required for the therapist’s services to be covered? In the case that you have difficulties, please contact us as we can provide you with a form that will clarify the nature of services to your insurance provider.

Do you offer sliding scale or reduced rate services?Currently, we offer a limited number of spots at a reduced rate for those without insurance coverage on a first-come, first-served basis. This rate is subject to re-evaluation as often as every 8 sessions. Please contact us for more information if this seems like something that would be beneficial for you. We can also provide you with referrals to other low-cost providers if we are unable to take you on at the present time.

How are services offered?Services are provided through telehealth (i.e., via phone and secure video). Research has shown that telemental health demonstrates comparable benefits to in-person care. There are several benefits to telemental health, including improved access and convenience in care. There are also some limitations, such as potential technological difficulties and interruptions. Please contact us to have a more in-depth discussion regarding potential benefits and limitations of telemental health. Stay tuned for later this year when we will announce offering walk & talk therapy on an as needed basis.

What is the length and frequency of sessions?Sessions are 50 minutes in length and typically begin on a weekly basis. Weekly sessions are strongly recommended in order to develop therapeutic rapport, complete the pre-treatment assessment, and determine co-constructed goals for therapy. However, with cost and time constraints, we also take clients on a biweekly basis. Your appointment day and time is reserved just for you in order to support consistency and prioritization of your mental health in your calendar and ours. Once substantial progress has been made, follow-up sessions can be scheduled more infrequently as a check-up or maintenance. Please know that there is no predetermined amount of sessions that you could need or want, and you are always in control of when/if you want to schedule another session.

How many sessions do I need?Depending on need, availability, and the therapeutic approach specifically tailored to you, the number of sessions will vary. We onboard clients on a weekly or biweekly basis, because we know research supports regular therapy sessions for successful therapeutic outcomes. We also do this to avoid getting stuck in “maintenance” or crisis management work, so that we can get to the root of your concerns. Treatment length tends to vary, but the course of therapy tends to run between 12-24 sessions for substantial symptoms reduction, and occurs on a weekly or biweekly basis. Many clients often see invaluable positive effects in having long-term access to a trained mental health professional who can provide a safe and non-judgemental space for support as an unbiased third party objective listener. Once you are a client, you are welcome to remain a client and are free to access services despite the frequency at which you choose to access them. On the other hand, you are also free to terminate services at any time.

How do I know if this service is right for me?We offer a complimentary 15-minute phone or video consultation as a meet-and-greet to see if we may be a right fit for you. During this consultation, we can provide more information on our qualifications, experience, training, and therapeutic style, while at the same time learning more about your presenting issues and what it is leading you to seek support at this time. According to the research, we know how important therapeutic fit is in positive therapeutic outcomes, possibly even more so than any interventions or techniques. That is why we are happy to provide referrals to other service providers who may meet your needs if we don’t seem like the best fit for you.
